Warning and Encouragement

     "Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one misses the grace of God. See that no one is sexually immoral or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights. 

     "You have not come to a mountain (Sinai) that can be touched, burning with fire, to darkness gloom and storm, to a trumpet blast or to such a voice... 

     "But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the first born. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. 

     "If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? 

     "Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our 'God is a consuming fire.'" 

NOTE: The world will be destroyed by fire and replaced by a new heaven and earth. All that remains will be God's kingdom and those who belong to it.
