Others Warn the People

     No. 6 of 8

The half-brothers of Jesus weren't convinced he was the Son of God. After he rose to life, the Lord visited James. He in turn wrote a letter "to the 12 tribes, scattered among the nations." That became a book in the New Testament.

James wrote, "You believe that there is one God? Good! Even the demons believe that - and shudder (James 2:19).

"If you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts... Such wisdom... is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice: (James 3:14-15).

"Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you" (James 4:7).

Peter, the disciple: "Be self-controlled and alert...the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8).

John, the disciple: "He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The Son of God appeared to destroy the devil's work" (1 John 3:8).

Author of Hebrews: "He (Jesus) shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death - that is, the devil..." (Heb. 2:14-18).

James, Peter, John, the unknown author and others testify to the existence and nature of the devil.
