   LAST CALL

The prophet Hosea in the Northern Kingdom, Israel, relays God's last attempt to call the people to repent of idolatry and wickedness.

Hosea 4:9. And it will be: Like people, like priests. I will punish both of them for their ways and repay them for their deeds.

Commentary in our Bible: God spoke through Hosea. Instead of leading people into truth and righteousness, spiritual leaders were following the people, telling them what they wanted to hear, no longer rebuking their sins.

Hosea 8:7. They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind.

Commentary: Israel had sown the wind of sin and idolatry; now they would reap the whirlwind (the Assyrian attack). Sinful actions and attitudes yield evil fruit.

We create our own tornadoes?

Hosea 8:12. I wrote for them many things of my law, but they regarded them as something alien.

Commentary: The people were treating God's word as a strange and alien thing. Many people in the church today rarely read their Bibles or cherish God's laws...the commands of his Word do not suit them.

The Southern Kingdom, Judah, would be next to fall.
Are we in America exempt from God's justice?
