Learning on the Job

Do you wonder if the 16 Republicans who lost out
to Donald Trump are secretly thanking heaven?

Battles in the swamp, staff turnovers, special council looking for stuff, media people talking stuff, athletes kneeling, Harvey, Irma, Maria, Las Vegas..... Whew! Who knew Making America Great would be so complicated?

James Madison, the Constitution guy, presided during the War of 1812. They burned his house. Lincoln thought saving the union was worth a (short) war. Booth wanted his presidency short. Woodrow Wilson by his own decision lost many men in WWI.

   Hoover's term crashed.

FDR couldn't decide about Nazi Germany, until Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor made it politically easy to declare war on both. Harry Truman had a no-win decision to make - an invasion costing millions of lives? Or a nuclear message with far fewer deaths?

Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon all have Vietnam in their records. George W. Bush was terribly surprised on 9/11. No wonder Obama kicked the can down the road, as do so many in Congress, and led from behind.

Good morning, Mr. President. On your agenda today,
along with Russia, China, the Middle East, storm damage, Las Vegas and
people who want you gone, we regret to report that a small Asian
country has nuclear weapons and also wants you gone

We have your morning briefing, sir: North Korea is holding South Korea
hostage with enormous artillery power. Japan and Guam are targets
as are we. If you attack, millions will die.

If you don't attack, millions may die.
We recommend you establish more missile defenses, yesterday.
That's all. We'll go now, so you can pray.

Will the president make America great, or safe? Both, or neither? Only God knows.
             Jimmy
