Forgiven and Purified
Here's an uncomfortable truth: parts of who we were as children and teenagers still live within us today. We still can react with the same immaturity, selfishness or emotional responses we had years ago.
Recognizing this is the first step toward spiritual growth. We all have areas where we're driven by emotion rather than wisdom...places where we are still children spiritually. We react rather than respond.
A special thing about following Jesus is that He doesn't expect us to have it all figured out. He meets us where we are and patiently works with us in every area of our lives.
But this growth requires honesty. Instead of being defensive, we can see our immature moments as opportunities for growth. God isn't surprised by our humanity. He seeks our transformation.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness - 1 John 1:9.
