Threat Assessment

    WORLD magazine, Part 2

Just War Theory: Just war doctrine requires the U.S. to have a nuclear deterrent adapted to today's adversaries. This is compatible with laws of armed conflict - targeting military, not civilians, proportionality and discrimination.

Trump's Approach: Too early to tell. He is pragmatic, nonideological. He wants outcomes based on what he believes will be beneficial without fighting wars. His first administration began modernizing our nuclear program, while he was engaged with Putin. You had hard power and cost impositions at the same time as diplomacy. I hope they go back to it.

What About Allies?  Trump did a great job making NATO allies stronger in the first administration. We want to encourage our allies, but we don't want to push them away or break NATO or key alliances in Asia. China is investing heavily in nuclear weapons.

What About Moses?

There were Israelites in 1405 B.C., getting schooled big-time by God and Moses before they entered the promised land and knocked off their enemies...without nuclear weapons.

This in Deuteronomy, the 5th book in the Jewish Torah. God's laws on and on and on. We have a big-time idea for you. Our commentary - not on and on and on - in our Bible is of interest to both our Jewish and Christian readers. Jesus quoted Deuteronomy.

Starting tomorrow
