Who Could Keep Up With David?
Three millenniums ago, he had strength and agility. He scaled walls, outran armies, was accurate with his sling, and confident. David was skillful, prudent, handsome, a musician, and poet.
While Saul was king, he asked for someone who plays music well. A servant answered, "I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the harp. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him" - 1 Samuel 16:18.
Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with David - 18:12. In everything he did he had great success. The king of Israel no less, Saul wanted the hated Philistines to kill David.
David was a working class shepherd. A king in the making, a soldier, and his ability seemed endless. He wanted to glorify God and help the chosen people. The world will see this when he returns from heaven to govern Israel in the Millenium.
Also in 1 Samuel: God told Saul, "Now your kingdom will not endure; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people..." (No election necessary) "The Lord said to Samuel, the Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
Psalm 89:20 - "I have found David my servant. With my sacred oil I have anointed him. My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him."
Psalm 89-27-29 - "I will also appoint him my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth. I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail. I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure."
