Get your robot now! 

      At a senior living facility in Cleveland a resident chatted about religion and politics for more than an hour with a robot called Navi. The robot can monitor seniors and assist them. Researchers hope robotic caregivers will help the elderly to live independently longer. 

     The number of older Americans becomes a larger portion of the population. Robots may supplement the widening care gap. But the revolution could result in less, necessary human interaction. In 2030, deaths will outpace births. Some 20 percent of the population will be 65 or older. The nursing staff will need to grow 40% by 2050. (We say, the more nurses are unionized, the more bots will be needed.) Many assisted living facilities and nursing homes are overtaxed. Most are at the risk of closure or declining quality care.  

     A robot can move on wheels, and its face has cartoonish feathers. It provides companionship, performs health assessments, and can lead yoga sessions. It can identify facial expressions and respond to emotion. Future models will respond to unpredictable scenarios, and "supplement" rather than replace humans. Robots don't get tired. They don't mind working 15-hour shifts. 

    We're sold. We will order our bot on Monday. 😊
