Christ in the OT

  No. 5 in a series

Allusions. Sometimes New Testament writers referred to Old Testament passages without quoting a text, persons, events or things, and not prophetic of Christ.

God's promise. In Genesis 3:15, before he scolded Adam and Eve, God spoke to the serpent, he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel. "He" and "His" refer to Christ. The "heel" would be the crucifixion, many centuries to come.

Romans 16:20: The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.

1 John 3:8: He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.

John 1:29: The next day John (the Baptist) saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"

Isaiah 53:7: He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter and as a sheep before her shears is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

Exodus 12:3-4: Tell the community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb...one for each household. If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor. The chapter continues with lambs blood on door frames, which God would Passover, while He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt. In 1 Corinthians 5:7: For Christ our Passover lamb has been sacrificed.

Coming soon: He laid the foundations of the earth and the heavens.
